Best Islamic Greeting

As all Muslims should mate, the Islamic acknowledgment is 'Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi wa barakato' (heartsease and humaneness and blessings of God be upon you). Most Muslims say 'Assalamu Alaykum' (quietness be upon you), then the Muslim replies and says 'wa alaykum assalam' (and repose be upon you also). Nevertheless, how does a Religionist say hinder to a non-Muslim who greets him? How does a Muslim recognize a non-Muslim?
